Prague Workshop

A CARE-NMD Workshop for specialists involved in DMD care was held in Prague, Czech Republic on 14th November 2012. The one-day event provided a wide range of information about DMD/BMD care for both experts and the general public.

Chaired by Assistant Professor Petr Vondracek (University of Brno, local CARE-NMD partners in the Czech Republic), the workshops were run in co-operation with the Institute of Biostatistics and Analysis, Masaryk University (IBA) who maintain the Czech genetic registry.

Approximately 30 Czech specialists attended the workshop, including paediatricians and neurologists, together with representatives of the Czech Parent Project patient organisation and the parents of children affected by DMD. The workshop provided time and numerous opportunities for questions and discussion on the presented topics in friendly atmosphere.

Sessions covered different areas of multidisciplinary care, including multidisciplinary current treatment practices, patient registries, genetic aspects, and physiotherapy. All presentations were filmed and will soon be available to view on the CARE-NMD and Czech Parent Project websites. In order to further increase awareness of DMD throughout the Czech Republic the organisers also plan to publish abstracts from the day.

The organisers would like to thank all the attendees for their support, and look forward to further cooperation amongst the neuromuscular community in the Czech Republic.
